PRESENTATION AND OBJECTIVES:

Food loss and waste is estimated at 30% of total food production, and in recent years there has been little progress in reducing it. This initiative aims to have a significant impact on this sector by addressing the main blocking effects rooted in the current organization and functioning of the food system.
The project team is working to make ZeroW the main driving force in FLW reduction through the use of systemic innovation. The goal is to halve FLW (food lost/waste) by 2030 and ensure conditions for near-zero FLW by 2050. This systemic innovation approach is based on the development of a central demonstration environment supporting nine Systemic Innovation Living Labs (SILLs) along the value chain, complemented by evaluation activities to ensure the long-term environmental and economic sustainability of zero FLW (0FLW) solutions and a just transition to a near-zero FLW system.
From a technological point of view, the objectives of the project are as follows:
Establish semantic interoperability through a European data space 0FLW. Provide collaborative business and governance models for data sharing, for the digital support needed for both ZeroW SILLs and external users/solution developers in the future, to reduce FLW.
Provide a set of data-driven FLW intelligence services for the necessary digital support and generalize FLW intelligent applications developed in SILLs, so that they can be used by external users to reduce FLW.
ITAINNOVA will focus on the analysis of SILLs data and the development of digital twin models and Artificial Intelligence for satellite image analysis, phenological identification and crop pest prediction, etc., which will be applicable to SILLs involving agricultural and logistic activities. For this purpose, a methodology based on the agile and iterative CRISP-DM standard approach will be followed, which provides a structured approach for planning a data mining project based on an iterative approach, comprising several phases: Business Understanding, Data Understanding, Data Preparation, Modeling, Evaluation, Implementation.
