MODULAR AND REUSABLE EEG SYSTEMS

PROJECT TITLE:

MODULAR AND REUSABLE EEG SYSTEMS

GENERAL DATA:

Program: CIRCULAR ECONOMY R+D+i DGA
Ref. No.: EC-33-2021
RESOLUTION Date: 11/30/2021
Execution date: 2021-30/09/2023

PRESENTATION AND OBJECTIVES:

Bitbrain Technologies was born as a spin-off company of the University of Zaragoza in 2010 dedicated to the commercialization of neurotechnological solutions. Its growth in R&D is supported by collaboration with research institutes, including the Aragon Institute of Technology (ITAINNOVA).

The main objective of the project focuses on reducing the generation of waste from electroencephalography (EEG) systems. Currently, Bitbrain’s product range consists of single-module equipment, which makes it very difficult to reuse the systems, thus increasing the environmental impact. The solution lies in the modularization of the equipment, which aims to facilitate the replacement of the elements that make up the EEG systems. Modularity makes it possible to increase functionalities and reduce waste production by replacing only deteriorated modules. On the other hand, research into automatic methods of fault detection and prediction based on artificial intelligence algorithms is a new development in the neurotech industry that also favors the reuse of EEG systems. Finally, traditional sensors for the measurement of EEG variables incorporate a high percentage of metallic compounds that are difficult to recycle. Research in textile sensors or textrodes aims to increase the recyclability of the systems, increasing the circularity of EEG systems.
