PRESENTATION AND OBJECTIVES:

The ReNEW project, an acronym for “Resilience-centric Smart, Green, Networked EU Inland Waterways,” is a three-year initiative funded by Horizon Europe. It is focused on the transition of Inland Waterway Transport (IWT) to smart, green, sustainable and climate resilient transportation. It brings together 24 partners from 11 European countries to play a key role in promoting economic growth while minimizing environmental impact and ecological degradation.

The main objective of ReNEW is to create and test new solutions for a carbon neutral and climate resilient IWT. To achieve this, the project will capitalize on opportunities for cooperation with ongoing projects and initiatives and will deliver a supporting framework for IWT resilience and sustainability, innovative solutions for infrastructure resilience and sustainability, a green and resilient IWT Dataspace, and four (Living Labs) that will provide examples in different locations, such as Ghent and the Douro corridor.

The Instituto Tecnológico de Aragón (ITA) plays a leading role associated with the digital twin concept in the ReNEW project. Leads the development of libraries and tools for dynamic simulation models enabled by Digital Twin (DT) facilitating the creation of advanced models for simulations. ITA is also responsible for evaluating Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) and metrics, including the creation of simulation scenarios for the Living Labs. Specifically, it contributes to the development of the Ghent City Logistics Hub, and participates in the Douro River waterway, promoting innovation and sustainability in these environments.
