PRESENTATION AND OBJECTIVES:

The project consists of the research of technologies applicable to the development of an in-line quality control and adjustment system based on expert systems (machine learning, deep learning, etc.) and artificial vision techniques, which can be directly integrated into the production line process, taking into account that it is a ‘hostile’ environment, changing in terms of lighting conditions and subject to vibrations.
The tailored blanks manufacturing process of the company ARCELORMITTAL is considered as a use case, specifically in two main lines of focus:

• Surface quality control at the exit of the cutting press. The process is automated, but requires 100% control of production at the surface quality level. The number of references and the volume of production imply visual inspection failures that can turn into non-conformities with the customer and/or a high rejection rate.
• Autonomous control, assistance and adjustment of the geometric control of the product in the unwinding and guiding-correction phase of the slitting process. To solve by means of the above mentioned technologies and interventional systems of performance the complex, critical and unstable geometrical adjustment that derives and is one of the main origins of defects.
