FACTS4WORKERS

GENERAL INFORMATION ON THE PROJECT:

  • Description: Horizon 2020. FoF-04-2014: Developing smart factories that are attractive to workers.
  • Docket number: H2020-FoF-2014-2015/H2020-FoF-2014
  • Award date: 08/15/2014.
  • Dates of execution: 01/12/2014-30/11/2018

PRESENTATION AND OBJECTIVES:

Since FACTS4WORKERS relies on a clear user-centric approach, usability, user experience and acceptance of the technology are the main focus of the project.

To make the goal of creating “factories for workers” measurable, FACTS4WORKERS identifies four more concrete objectives in terms of measurable indicators. These objectives, for workers participating in the pilots, are:

  • Increase the problem-solving and innovation capabilities of workers participating in the pilots;
  • Increase the cognitive satisfaction of workers, who are provided with access to the necessary information and knowledge, in the most appropriate place and form to develop the assigned tasks;
  • Increase worker productivity by 10%;
  • Develop worker-centric solutions that achieve a TRL 5-7 that are integrated into the ICT infrastructure of smart-factories.

To measure the achievement of these objectives, the project will develop and test an evaluation framework to determine the impact obtained as a result of the deployment of the solutions in manufacturing plants. The framework will allow to determine if the impact of the solution is as expected and, in turn, to demonstrate that it is due to the solution as well as to determine if the impact can be improved as a consequence of the modification of the solution.

The project applies these measurable objectives to four specific solutions integrated into the smart factory, which will be tested and validated in the industrial partners’ plants. The solutions to be developed address four technological challenges to implement the Industry 4.0 vision that have been detected in our industrial partners but that can be generalized to any other manufacturing plant. These challenges are:

  • The augmented and personalized operator: use of Augmented Reality tools for the provision of immediate, specific, contextualized and visual information to support workers’ tasks in the plant.
  • Work-centered knowledge sharing and management using rich media: adapting to factories the knowledge capture, social interaction and online learning tools that are common in offices and the personal environment but not for workers in plants.
  • Intelligent workstations with self-learning capabilities: adaptation of big data and artificial intelligence technologies to existing workstations in today’s plants so that the knowledge extracted from the automated analysis of data from different sources can be passed on to workers in the form of best practices and recommendations.

On-the-job (mobile) learning: making training, knowledge transfer and remote peer support accessible to on-site workers, in particular those of SMEs, in the specific environment in which the worker performs his or her on-site tasks using rich media.
