ECOSAICA

01.- NAME OF THE PROJECT

E-commerce in corrugated cardboard with impact and drop safety: ECOSAICA

02.- SUMMARY

E-commerce is growing at an unstoppable pace worldwide. The selection of the appropriate packaging, in addition to the need to ensure the maximum protection of the products marketed through our stores online, is a basic element for the success of the business, in addition to the importance it has in the prevention of breakage and related problems, economic as well as image of the company.

Within this framework, the project aims to design new packaging made of cardboard. 100% recycled corrugated, adapted to the e-commerce and aimed primarily at fragile products, as the main risk in this distribution environment is the is related to impacts and falls in automated handling, semi-automatic and manual bundling.

Likewise, the second objective of the project is to develop a numerical and experimental tool capable of providing end consumers with a set of functionalities and characteristics required for each product to be contained, and customization of the packaging in terms of its design, allowing the optimization and impact protection.

04.- INFORMATION TECHNICAL INFORMATION ON THE PROJECT AND ITS OBJECTIVES

Promote technological development, innovation and quality research.

The project has two distinct objectives:

The design of new carton packaging designs specially adapted to e-commerce for fragile products, and by both by ensuring adequate impact protection but also by ensuring the while at the same time achieving designs that meet the rest of the requirements that the e-commerce channel imposes on packaging (in addition to the logical protection of the packaged product):

  • Simplicity of use in the logistics chain (including from the time of packaging to opening by the customer) end)
    • Reduced weight

Corrugated cardboard is a great starting point for the option for lightness and recyclability. By Therefore, the project is aimed at developing conditioners and final packaging geometries, always in corrugated cardboard, to avoid the use of other conditioning elements that show clear signs of limitations in terms of recyclability.

For this first objective of the project, the following work is being carried out on specific designs, with the intention that they reach the market and can be to be presented at specialized packaging trade fairs. The initial selection of the designs was projects that are active at that moment, and that have as denominator common e-commerce of bottles.

The second objective of the project is to to develop a series of tools, both experimental and numerical, which will give support for the development of corrugated cardboard packaging from the point of view of protection systems, so that they can be made available to the packaging designers for the generation of new designs.

The designs associated with the first objective themselves constitute the basis for the development and validation of the new design tools, if The aim is for them to be general in nature and easily adaptable. to new packaged products and new ideas in the geometrical design of the corrugated cardboard packaging.
