SUPPLYCHAIN 4.0 – Development of logistics solutions in the supply chain of manufacturers of construction and public works machinery based on IoT, Big Data and Cloud Computing technologies.
File number:
Spanish manufacturers of machinery for construction and public works maintain both high levels of export of their products as well as global sourcing of components. This means that they have to carry out complex logistical operations with different actors, such as suppliers of components, customers, distribution centers and operators of transport, in many countries around the world and immersed in very broad supply chains where, in addition to suffering the usual problems associated with these chains, they suffer others such as those derived from their low bargaining power as they are usually small and medium-sized companies.
The main problems faced by manufacturers in their supply chains are mainly focused on the lack of visibility of both relevant information related to the business (forecasted demand, punctual or atypical needs of customers due to sudden variations in their demand) and information related to the own logistics processes (availability of stock of components at suppliers, actual lead time at any time, availability of transport, ). Also relevant is the lack of visibility of goods in transit, whether they are critical supplies for manufacturing or your own finished machines that are traveling through the supply chain to customers (location, time of delivery, etc ).
Having this information available accurately and at the right time would allow Spanish manufacturers to be able to make relevant decisions that directly affect the business (customer delivery planning, production planning, transport management, etc), as well as the financial status of the company (reduction of stock levels while maintaining the agreed service level , reduction of component purchase batches, making purchases in more local markets, etc).
This project foresees creating solutions adapted to the needs of Spanish manufacturers of construction and public works machinery using the BigData, Internet of Things (IoT) and Cloud Computing technologies in combination, so as to determine the level of applicability of the same in this sector as well as to measure the potential to obtain advantages and savings in the logistic processes thanks to their use.
This project has received a grant under the program to support Innovative Business Groups (AEIs). This program to support the strengthening of innovation clusters is inserted in the European strategy to improve competitiveness for the innovation.
The clusters that can benefit from the program’s grants are those entities whose innovative potential and critical mass have been recognized by the Ministry of Economy, Industry and Competitiveness (MINECO) through their registration in the Register of Innovative Business Clusters.
