4. Presentation and objectives:

INCLUSION is a 3-year European project that aims to address a number of challenges related to public transport accessibility in remote urban and rural areas. In a rapidly changing transportation environment, where individuals’ mobility requirements have become more complex and the role of new forms of transportation solutions is increasing, public transportation remains a key requirement for people with specific needs. In some private urban neighborhoods or remote rural areas across Europe, efficient and inclusive public transport means greater access to jobs, educational and social opportunities.
ITAINNOVA collaborates in the project by providing a social network analysis to analyze and promote the use of public transport in one of the pilots.
The objectives of the project are summarized as follows:

  • Research and understand the main characteristics of the prioritized areas, as well as the relevant factors that influence mobility and accessibility.
  • Identify the user and social groups most exposed to problems of accessibility and transport inequality in the different types of areas and carry out a comprehensive analysis of their mobility requirements.
  • Understand how ICT tools, service and social innovation can help people address accessibility issues and improve or increase inclusion and transportation equity for interested user groups.
  • Identify and critically evaluate existing, innovative, efficient, affordable, inclusive, equitable and economically viable forms of public transport, with a particular focus on the use of ICT applications and possible transferability for prioritized areas and target social groups.
  • Conduct experimental validation of innovative elements and ideas to improve transportation accessibility in selected areas.
  • Conduct a quantitative impact assessment as well as a qualitative process evaluation on innovative transportation solutions validated in the INCLUSION experimental pilots.
  • Research, develop and consolidate concepts and business models related to the accessible transport options evaluated, with the aim of transferring these findings to other European contexts.
  • Disseminate and promote identified innovations, transferable solutions and recommendations with the aim of fostering the adoption of accessible, inclusive and equitable mobility solutions for European priority areas and vulnerable user groups.
