PRESENTATION AND OBJECTIVES:

Quality assurance in the development of systems to ensure their robustness and reliability is a crucial aspect that has been of interest to both the research community and the business sector. Moreover, with the continuous advancement of technologies, it is crucial that this quality assurance occurs early, from the earliest stages of the systems’ life cycle, and as systematically as possible. The Robotics, Mechatronics and MBSE (ROMEM) group of the Instituto Tecnológico de Aragón aims to incorporate the Model-based Systems Engineering (MBSE) paradigm in the development of advanced robotic and mechatronic systems and the integration of advanced and intelligent control/perception/decision techniques to guarantee their robustness throughout the life cycle of the systems. To this end, the ROMEM group brings together these three core technologies (robotics, mechatronics and MBSE) to leverage their strengths and explore their complementarities in achieving more ambitious goals and more innovative solutions in current technological environments such as robotics and mechatronics. Robotics provides the ability to perceive and interact with the physical world, mechatronics provides a greater capacity to respond and adapt to dynamic and changing situations in the environment, and MBSE, through the definition of modeling languages and the use of quality assurance techniques, guarantees a systematic and efficient development. Thus, three general objectives are established:

  1. Incorporate model-based paradigm (MBSE) languages and techniques to develop innovative solutions in the fields of robotics and mechatronics.
  2. Improve the efficiency, precision and robustness of robotic and mechatronic systems (throughout their life cycle).
  3. Increase the ability of robotic and mechatronic systems to adapt and respond to dynamic and changing situations in their environment.
