ECOROEL

PROJECT TITLE:

RESEARCH AND DEVELOPMENT OF NEW PERSONAL PROTECTIVE CLOTHING FOR THE ESTABLISHMENT OF A CIRCULAR ECONOMY MODEL (ECOROEL)

GENERAL DATA:

Program: CIRCULAR ECONOMY R+D+i DGA
Ref. No.: EC-04-2021
RESOLUTION Date: 11/30/2021
Date of execution: 09/2021-30/09/2023

PRESENTATION AND OBJECTIVES:

The project aims to establish a circular economy model based on the research and prototyping of a new range of sustainable products through the eco-design of recyclable technical protective garments and the use of textile waste. This waste is an important fraction of pre-consumer textile waste from off-cuts from clothing and post-consumer waste from end-of-life personal protective equipment (protective clothing). The originality of the project and the technological challenge lies in the type of materials to which the eco-design and recovery of materials is intended to be applied. The difficulty and the need for research is based on the fact that, unlike ordinary clothing, protective garments are subject to strict mechanical and thermal performance tests. With the current level of knowledge, it is not possible to make an up-cycling strategy with post-consumer materials from protective clothing.

The Oroel Group is a 100% Aragonese business group formed by a group of companies located in different countries and continents whose main activity is the design, manufacture, marketing and maintenance of personal protective clothing. The group was born in 2004 when Confecciones Oroel, S.A. (hereinafter OROEL) had the need to expand its portfolio to include new services and markets. The founding company is Confecciones Oroel S.A., founded in 1980. From the very first moment, it specialized in a different type of workwear, much more technical than that manufactured until then in Spain.
OROEL plays the role of project coordinator and undertakes the innovative effort with the scientific collaboration of Aragon’s leading technology center in the field of materials research and development. The Technological Institute of Aragon (ITAINNOVA).
