TITLE OF THE PROJECT:

IA4Q- Artificial Intelligence for Quality and Inspection in Industrial Plants

GENERAL DATA:

Program: TRANSMISSIONS 2023
Reference: PLEC2023-010375
RESOLUTION Date: 12/22/2023
Execution date: 01/01/2024-12/31/2027

PRESENTATION AND OBJECTIVES:

The IA4Q project – Artificial Intelligence for Quality and Inspection in Industrial Plants, aims at researching industrial technology for the improvement of inspection and quality control processes in large manufacturing plants, focusing its validation in the Stellantis car factory in Zaragoza.
The project is based on 19 use cases defined jointly between Stellantis and the companies, covering inspection and quality control along the entire production line of automobiles. The objectives of these 19 use cases are specified in the technological validation of 70 results (models, processes and products), which will be achieved by working on four technological lines and 54 scientific-technical objectives (OCTs):

  • Sensing and data acquisition systems (11 OCTs)
  • Models for production environments with artificial intelligence (32 OCTs)
  • Edge Computing and Digital Twins (6 OCTs)
  • Automation and intelligent robotic systems (6 OCTs)

The general objective of the project is the research of industrial technology for the improvement of inspection and quality control processes in large manufacturing plants, focusing its validation on the Stellantis automobile factory in Zaragoza. This general objective is in turn broken down into the following specific objectives of the consortium as a whole:

  • To advance in the use of AI to respond to specific use cases in the production chain of new vehicles, researching and validating various systems and subsystems capable of providing an integrated response to the needs of the industry.
  • Integrate the knowledge in all the necessary components to validate 70 new processes, models and products that will form the aforementioned set of systems and subsystems, through the definition of cross-requirements and collaborative research.
  • Validate the technologies created in the relevant environment in the Zaragoza factory itself, with the aim not only of completing the research but also of facilitating the dissemination, diffusion and future commercialization of the technologies created.

The IA4Q project is part of the TransMisiones program, an initiative of the Ministry of Science, Innovation and Universities through the Center for Technological Development and Innovation (CDTI), which funds R&D projects developed by clusters of companies. This program addresses two key areas for the Spanish economy: cross-cutting priorities related to the digital revolution, and the challenges of the green transition, including the energy transition and the fight against climate change.

In addition, the State Research Agency (AEI) has granted aid within the framework of TransMisiones 2023, as part of the state program to promote scientific and technical research and its transfer to the productive sphere.

In summary, it can be said that the IA4Q project aims to change the current paradigm of quality control in production lines in the automotive sector and will mark a milestone in how this type of task is approached, not only in the automotive sector, but also in mass production industries.
