PRESENTATION AND OBJECTIVES:

The overall objective of the BIOBASED-MS project is the development of a new methodology for the MODIFICATION OF SILICA WITH BIOBASED COMPOUNDS FOR USE AS A REINFORCEMENT CARRIER IN TIRES. These new bio-based compounds should replace conventional bi-functional silane-based modifiers.

  • I. Sustainable materials that act as reinforcing filler in rubber (e.g., natural rubber), which is currently a demand from the automotive industry. We are interested in developing a new line of bio-based silica modifiers based on serinol-pyrrole as a precipitated silica modifier that will initially fit into the green tire industry, customize the demand for modified precipitated silica and in the medium to long term replace organosilanes as silica modifiers.
  • Sustainable materials that comply with the European Solvent Emissions Directive to avoid the emission of volatile organic compounds (VOCs). There are many different types of silane modifiers available on the market, but most are fossil-based materials and produce VOCs.
