{"id":41826,"date":"2025-09-22T11:09:52","date_gmt":"2025-09-22T09:09:52","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.ita.es\/proyecto\/biopackman\/"},"modified":"2025-11-26T13:19:29","modified_gmt":"2025-11-26T12:19:29","slug":"biopackman","status":"publish","type":"proyecto","link":"https:\/\/www.ita.es\/en\/project\/biopackman\/","title":{"rendered":"BIOPACKMAN"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-titulo-del-proyecto\">TITLE OF THE PROJECT:<\/h2>\n\n<p>BIOPACKMAN:  <\/p>\n\n<p> <strong> BIODEGRADABLE<\/strong> <strong>PACKAGING<\/strong><strong> MATERIALS<\/strong>ADVANCING CIRCULARITY, SUSTAINABILITY&amp; <strong>ECO-INNOVATION<\/strong><\/p>\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-datos-generales\">GENERAL DATA:<\/h2>\n\n<p>Program: HORIZONTE EUROPE<br\/>Reference: 101178576<br\/>Date of RESOLUTION: 05\/21\/2025<br\/>Date of execution: 06\/01\/2025 &#8211; 05\/31\/2029<\/p>\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-presentacion-y-objetivos\">PRESENTATION AND OBJECTIVES:<\/h2>\n\n<p>The <strong>BioPackMan<\/strong> project focuses on the design of <strong>new biodegradable polymeric materials.<\/strong> Its goal is to expand the possibilities of materials such as <strong>polyhydroxyalkanoates (PHAs), poly(butylene succinate) and its copolymers (PBS, PBSA), as well as polylactic acid (PLA).<\/strong> From these, <strong>tailor-made compounds<\/strong> will be developed <strong>,<\/strong> with improved combined properties, capable of producing <strong>biodegradable and recyclable<\/strong> packaging that meets the needs of each application: mechanical resistance, heat stability, chemical resistance or gas barrier capacity. <br\/>These materials will be designed with specific structures to adapt to both flexible and rigid containers, applying the principle of considering <strong>biodegradation as a property of the system:<\/strong> from the choice of the material and the design of the container to its behavior under different disposal conditions, whether foreseen or not.<br\/>To improve their sustainability, <strong>natural additives<\/strong> such as <strong>cellulose nanofibers, nanolignin and plant extracts or food by-products<\/strong> will be incorporated, together with other additives and innovative technologies. All this will result in greener, fully biodegradable packaging that meets the requirements of today&#8217;s products. <br\/>The project will bring together the entire value chain &#8211; materials developers, manufacturers, formulators, packaging converters and end users &#8211; to generate at least <strong>four biodegradable polyester formulations, six sustainable additive systems and two innovative processing technologies.<\/strong> This will result in the creation of six <strong>sustainable packaging demonstrators<\/strong> targeting the food, home care and personal care sectors.<br\/>The major challenge is to achieve the same quality as traditional non-biodegradable packaging (PP, PE, PET), while ensuring safety and regulatory compliance. The aim is to demonstrate that biodegradable materials can be<strong> circular.<\/strong><br\/>In short, BioPackMan proposes a strategic combination of materials that, when integrated with polymeric matrices, achieve <strong>improved performance without losing their biodegradability and recyclability.<\/strong> This will enable the development of more resistant, sustainable and safer packaging solutions, capable of responding to the current demands of industry and society.<br\/>In addition, the project will apply the <strong>SSbD (Safe and Sustainable by Design)<\/strong> framework and foster dialogue with industry and society, ensuring the <strong>adoption of new circular business models<\/strong>.
