FOF-06-2017: New product functionalities through advanced surface manufacturing processes for mass production.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong>File number:<\/strong> 768705<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Date of grant:<\/strong> 20\/04\/2017<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Dates of execution:<\/strong> 01\/11\/2017 &#8211; 30\/04\/2021<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-presentacion-y-objetivos\"><strong>PRESENTATION AND OBJECTIVES<\/strong>:<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>The\n polymeric seals are essential components in almost all \nindustrial mechanical processes allowing effective containment and \nmovement of liquids and gases in extreme environments. The \nfriction is intrinsically related to the behavior of the \nseal. \nHigh friction accelerates seal wear, which can lead to leakage and\/or premature component failure, and increases the energy consumption of industrial processes \n.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The technique of \n(micro-) texturing is a technique applied on surfaces for the \nreduction of friction in lubricated rigid materials such as for example metallic or ceramic materials \n. \nRecently this technique has been applied to polymeric and elastomeric materials at laboratory level and\n its efficiency has been demonstrated.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The project will develop and \ndemonstrate a novel methodology for the design and fabrication of \nlarge volume polymeric components with textured \nsurfaces, which will be designed according to the operating conditions of each particular component \n. With the resulting design \nwill achieve a friction reduction of &gt;20% for an extra cost \n&lt;10%.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>This innovative methodology combines:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>A \nadvanced modeling software for the identification of \nsurface texture patterns that lead to a significant reduction of \nfriction in plastic and rubber applications and components.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>A \nmold component design software that allows the \nproper transfer of the mold texture pattern to the surface \nof the component.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>An innovative automated laser system for \nthe application of hierarchical micro-texture patterns induced by \nlaser on the mold surface.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Good practices for molding and demolding using molds with textured surfaces.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>In-line optical inspection for quality control of the surface texture pattern.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>The\n project will establish three lines of demonstration of the \nmethodology applied to: 1) the design and manufacture of molds and to the design and \nmanufacture of 2) rotary seals for use in engines and 3) seals with \nreciprocating motion for industrial processes.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-entidades-participantes\"><strong>PARTICIPATING ENTITIES<\/strong>:<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>INSTITUTO TECNOL\u00d3GICO DE ARAG\u00d3N (ITAINNOVA) (Project Coordinator) &#8211; Spain<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>GOTTFRIED WILHELM LEIBNIZ UNIVERSITAET HANNOVER (LUH) &#8211; Germany<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>ADVANCED TECHNOLOGIES INSPIRALIA SL (INSPIRALIA) &#8211; Spain<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>FOUNDATION FOR RESEARCH AND TECHNOLOGY HELLAS (FORTH) &#8211; Greece<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>ORP STAMPI SRL (OR.P.
