{"id":25657,"date":"2014-05-19T10:17:54","date_gmt":"2014-05-19T08:17:54","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.ita.es\/proyecto\/marnext\/"},"modified":"2023-11-30T09:08:54","modified_gmt":"2023-11-30T08:08:54","slug":"marnext","status":"publish","type":"proyecto","link":"https:\/\/www.ita.es\/en\/project\/marnext\/","title":{"rendered":"MARNEXT"},"content":{"rendered":"\r\n    <div class=\"wp-block-columns is-style-columns-margen is-layout-flex wp-container-core-columns-is-layout-1 wp-block-columns-is-layout-flex\">\r\n    <div class=\"wp-block-column is-layout-flow wp-block-column-is-layout-flow\">\r\n    \n<p>\n          <strong>OBJECTIVES<\/strong>\n        <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The technological objective of this project is the development of a  \nmethodology for modeling and simulation of communications networks  \nand next-generation heterogeneous systems, with the aim of studying\n  their performance, interoperability, discovering the problems that  \ncan occur in the real world in terms of engineering of  \ntraffic, routing, quality of service, etc.  <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The motivation for this project is the use of simulation as a means of  \ntool for the development and investigation of architectures and  \nnew generation protocols within the scope of IP networks In  \nIn particular, it has been chosen as a first scenario for its modeling and  \nsimulation of the access network known as &#8220;Ethernet in the  \nlast mile, Ethernet first mile (EFM)&#8230;  \n<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The purpose of this project is to obtain, analyze and make available  \nthe models developed and the results of the project are made available to interested companies.  \nresults obtained on a real EFM-based architecture.  \n<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The most important motivations and advantages of Ethernet development in metropolitan networks are:  \n<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>The great &#8220;boom&#8221; that has emerged in the last few years in Ethernet technology.<\/li><li>Reductions of transformations in the link layer, therefore\n  reduction of delay, jitter, etc., a data infrastructure  \nand a global standard that ensures interoperability.<\/li><li>Cost reduction in the transformation hardware.<\/li><li>Simplicity of management, point-to-point Ethernet.<\/li><li>Exploitation of the current deployment of cable networks (twisted pair).<\/li><li>High capacity for broadband services.<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>\n          <strong>TECHNOLOGICAL INNOVATION<\/strong>\n        <\/p>\n\n\n\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote is-layout-flow wp-block-quote-is-layout-flow\"><p>Operators&#8217; interest in this technology is focused on the  \nexisting cabling deployment (dual-pair, double-pair, double-pair).  \nand fiber optics to offer the highest quality of service.  \npossible at lower cost and to offer broadband services  <\/p><p>EFM&#8217;s technical specifications are set out in an EFM standard.  \nIEEE (Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers) organization,  \nmore specifically in the IEEE 802.3ah standard. This standard is, in the  \ncurrently in the process of standardization and will allow after its  \nThe finalization of a multitude of manufacturers that implement it will be completed.\n \n<\/p><p>One of the outcomes of the project is the construction of the  \nnetwork elements making up the EPON architecture: OLT, ONU and Splitter\n  and the implementation of the link layers of these three optical passive and  \nnetwork components.  \n<\/p><p>Algorithms have been developed to improve the  \nperformance of these access networks for use in services with high  \nnetwork requirements.  <\/p><\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>ARCHITECTURE<\/strong> \n<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The network architecture that has been developed is point-to-multipoint.  \nover optical fiber: EFM PON (Passive Optical Network) or EPON.  \n<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The components of the EPON access network are:  \n<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li><strong>OLT<\/strong> (Optical Line Terminal) : network headend of the\n  EPON architecture, it works as an access node, connecting the network to the  \noptical access to the backbone.<\/li><li><strong>ONU<\/strong> (Optical Network Unit): it is the component  \nThe network that is located at the end-user&#8217;s location. Your\n  main function is the TDMA access to the medium (multiplexing in the  \ntime) by concentrating end-user traffic.<\/li><li><strong>Passive optical splitter<\/strong>: passive optical multiplexer.<ul><li>In the downstream direction towards the UN, it forwards the frames arriving at the incoming port through all the outgoing ports.<\/li><li>In the upstream direction it collects and unifies all UNO traffic in the link with the OLT.<\/li><\/ul><\/li><li><strong>Clients<\/strong>: Terminals, servers or Ethernet LANs.<\/li><li>1 Gbps single-mode <strong>fiber optic links<\/strong>.<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>\n          <strong>OPNET DEVELOPMENT<\/strong>\n        <\/p>\n\n\n\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote is-layout-flow wp-block-quote-is-layout-flow\"><p>The core of the project corresponds to the definition and implementation of the  \nin the OPNET Modeler simulation tool of choice for the various  \ncomponents of the EPON network.  <\/p><p>This tool allows to design and simulate the operation of networks.\n  communications, with the objective of obtaining a series of statistics  \nto determine whether the network is functioning correctly and the existence of\n  of unwanted phenomena.  \n<\/p><p>From the OPNET simulations, it is possible to determine the feasibility or\n  not of a certain network configuration. A very important advantage of  \nis the possibility it offers to innovate in the creation of new products and services.  \nof a new communications network element.  \n<\/p><p>OPNET allows for the inclusion of new protocols in the\n  components thanks to its internal structure.
