ZeroW directly addresses the challenge of food loss and waste by developing and testing a synergistic combination of innovations in real-life conditions, with the goal of achieving ambitious reductions at all stages of the food supply chain, from post-harvest to consumption.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The global food system is a major contributor to climate change, accounting for more than 30% of global greenhouse gas emissions. Approximately one third of the food produced is never consumed, but is lost or wasted somewhere along the value chain. This is a major problem that urgently requires systemic innovation and the ZeroW project is working to develop just that.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Research has identified a variety of factors affecting food loss and waste (FWL), including poor forecasting; mismatches between supply and demand; inadequate harvesting, processing and logistics practices; low tolerance for &#8220;ugly&#8221; foods at retail; and problematic consumer buying habits.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Some of the major structural and behavioral effects of the current food system show that the problem occurs throughout the entire value chain and a multitude of solutions must be developed and implemented to make a real impact.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n\r\n    <!-- block: caso-exito-banner -->\r\n            <section class=\"block-caso-exito-banner  la-sim-sec\">\r\n            <div class=\"row\">\r\n                <div class=\"stell-inner sim-process\">\r\n                    <div class=\"la-sim-img\">\r\n                                                    <img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.ita.es\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/03\/ITA_CASO-EXITO-ZeroW_DESPERDICIOS-300x200.jpg\" alt=\"ZeroW\">\r\n                                            <\/div>\r\n                    <div class=\"la-sim-cnt\">\r\n                        <h4>Research has identified a variety of factors that affect food loss and waste.  <\/h4>\r\n                    <\/div>\r\n                <\/div>\r\n            <\/div>\r\n        <\/section>\r\n        <!-- end block: caso-exito-banner -->\r\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-columns is-style-columns-margen-estrecho is-layout-flex wp-container-core-columns-is-layout-3 wp-block-columns-is-layout-flex\">\n<div class=\"wp-block-column is-layout-flow wp-block-column-is-layout-flow\">\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Results<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Reducing ADP is essential for the transition to sustainable food systems by substantially reducing resource use and GHG emissions.
